WHAT IS THE ROSEN METHOD ?

Rosen Method Bodywork is an original form of somatic approach which addresses physical tension within the body. This body-centred therapy, a form of gentle touch, together with verbal communication helps people to become aware of what they are holding – physically and emotionally – in their body. When tension in the body is contacted, in a space of safety and non-judgement, it can relax deeply and let go of stress and pain.

This increased body awareness and deep relaxation guides the healing process on every level of one’s being, not only in health, but also in times of physical illness, and of emotional challenge.

Marion Rosen developed this form of body therapy over fifty years’ experience as a physiotherapist and health educator. It has two integrated components- Rosen Method Bodywork and Rosen Method Movement.

Rosen Method, both the Bodywork and Movement, help individuals to find their own truth, to find themselves. It also helps to soften the barriers in their life so that they can live more fully. The natural feelings of aliveness and embodied self can arise and become a source of joy. The unique power of a gentle approach, both to Bodywork and movement, is purposed to realize healing, health, and well-being.

Some of the benefits of Rosen include:

  • release of physical tension and pain;
  • reduction of stress and chronically suppressed emotion – leading to improved immune functioning and other health benefits;
  • personal growth; reconnection to inner resources and opening to one’s full potential;
  • greater self-care and nurturing;
  • positive life change through increased self-confidence and strengthened sense of purpose;
  • improved interpersonal relationships;
  • spiritual connection and opening.

Through  listening to the truth of the body, it is possible to discover what we can do, who we can be, what we can experience, how we can love” – Marion Rosen

HOW CAN ROSEN METHOD HELP?

Rosen Method has been clinically proven to improve physical health, emotional well-being, and inter-personal relationships in a variety of ways. It is particularly relevant for individuals suffering from stress, chronic skeletal or muscle pain, and tension. People suppress feelings (anger, depression, anxiety and irritability) as a reaction to stress and smother it in layers of armour. Psychological tension is held down under physical tension. Over long periods, the suppression of stress, tension and emotions impair the immune, digestive and growth systems which predisposes people to ill health, including cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, ulcers, fibromyalgia, respiratory diseases, many forms of cancers, tumours and arthritis.

The gentle listening touch of Rosen helps individuals break the stress cycle and connect to their inner strengths and feelings of well-being. Once these links are made in the clients’ self-awareness, the body can repair itself leading to improvements in health, well-being and interpersonal relationships.

A Swedish study by Hoffren-Larrson et al (2009) reports extensive health improvements due to Rosen Method which includes: increases in well-being and self-confidence; reductions in depression, stress, anxiety and suicidal thoughts; reduction in pain, tension and head and back aches with a more improved digestive function and breathing; awareness of repressed problems and memories and ability to move beyond them.
